2014년 9월 10일 이 노래를 올리면서 하늘에는 뭉게구름,
운동장에는 만국기가 펄렁이는 50여 년 전 그날의 학교 운동장을
가만히 그려보았습니다.
가을운동회가 열리던 그날,
학교운동장 가득 울려퍼지던 이 <응원가>가 어린 우리들의 가슴을
마냥 뛰게 했었지요.

오지 민요(奧地民謠, *bush ballad)로 널리 알려진 이 노래는
오스트텔리아에 정착한 초기 개척민들의 힘든 "양털 깎기 작업"에 대한
일종의 勞動謠로 불려진 노래로, 미국남북전쟁 때 불려진 "Ring the Bell,
Watchman"이 原曲이라고 합니다.

'부시 발라드(bush ballad)'라고 하는 詩들이 많은 사람에게 인기를 끌었다.
